With the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology, the field of email management has ushered in new changes. Two years after ChatGPT was launched, many email applications have introduced AI writing and summary functions to enhance user experience. Recently, the well-known email client Superhuman announced the adoption of AI technology to focus on solving the headache-inducing email classification problems in user emails, which has attracted widespread attention.
Looking back at history, email classification issues are not new topics. As early as 2019, Google launched the Inbox Mail Client, trying to organize emails by category through intelligent classification. Although this innovation attracted widespread attention at the time, it ended up closing for various reasons. Since then, although some mainstream email clients, such as native applications of Gmail, have also tried to optimize email classification, the results have never met users' expectations.
Superhuman's new feature, Auto Label, is designed to completely change this situation. This feature utilizes advanced AI technology to automatically mark emails in categories such as marketing, marketing, social or news. In addition, users can also create custom tags by writing prompts to meet personalized needs. In order to improve efficiency, users can also choose to automatically archive certain tags, thereby effectively reducing unnecessary email interference and improving work efficiency.

Superhuman CEO Rahul Vohra said in an interview with Crunch that in user feedback, more and more cold emails and spam have become the main pain points in current email use. In the past, users mainly relied on the spam filtering function of Gmail and Outlook, but the results were not ideal. Therefore, Superhuman decided to solve this problem through an independent classification system to provide users with a more accurate email management experience.
However, it is worth noting that the automatic tag function still has certain limitations in the early stages of its launch. Users cannot directly edit the prompt for creating tags. If existing prompts cannot effectively classify certain emails, users can only solve the problem by creating new prompts. This limitation may affect the user experience to some extent, but Superhuman said it will continue to optimize features to meet user needs.
In addition to the automatic tagging feature, Superhuman has also improved its reminder feature. Users can choose to re-view the emails they need to reply after a certain period of time. If no reply is received within the set time, the system will automatically present the email to the user to help them follow up in time. In addition, the system also has AI automatic drafting function, which can provide draft suggestions for follow-up emails based on the user's reply tone and context. This "gentle reminder" method further improves the user's email processing efficiency.
Looking ahead, Superhuman plans to integrate more users’ knowledge bases, such as personal websites and Wikipedia pages, to better understand user needs. With access to the user's schedule, Superhuman's AI may be able to automatically reply to certain emails and even actively send replies that meet the user's set conditions. The implementation of this function will further improve the intelligence level of email management.
Although it will take some time to fully implement the automatic reply function, the current email classification problem can be effectively solved through the automatic tagging function. With the launch of this feature, Superhuman will be committed to providing users with a more efficient email processing experience, helping users to free themselves from tedious email management and focus on more important tasks.
