The editor of Downcodes brings you the latest survey results from the IBM Institute for Business Value: Nearly half of CEOs are worried about AI accuracy and bias! This survey covered 24 countries around the world and involved 5,000 executives. It provided an in-depth analysis of the current status and challenges of enterprises in AI governance, risk management and ethics. The report points out that although many companies have taken measures to deal with AI risks, there is still a lot of room for improvement, and it is crucial to build a strong AI governance framework.

In terms of AI governance, the survey shows that 21% of executives believe that their organization's AI governance maturity is at the systematic or innovative stage, indicating that companies still have a lot of room for improvement in this area. AI governance refers to principles, policies, and responsible development practices that are consistent with ethics and human values.
In response to concerns about AI accuracy and bias, 60% of C-suite executives said they have established a clear head of generative AI within their organization. Meanwhile, 78% of executives said they maintain thorough documentation to ensure AI is explainable. Additionally, 74% of companies conduct ethical impact assessments and 70% conduct user testing to assess and mitigate potential risks. The survey also found that 80% of C-suite executives said that the company has a dedicated risk management function focused on the application of AI or generative AI.
Phaedra Boinodiris, IBM Consulting's global leader for trust in AI, pointed out that establishing a strong governance framework to promote accountability, transparency and explainability is the current main focus of enterprises. She suggested that when establishing a foundation for responsible AI governance, companies can consider a series of actions, including improving the AI literacy of all employees so that they have both the technical skills to use AI effectively and the ability to develop critical thinking skills. Additionally, companies should ensure that their measurement systems are aligned with core values, including those of their stakeholders, while introducing diverse and multidisciplinary teams into governance systems for AI model development and procurement.
Research also shows that companies with higher technological maturity tend to pay more attention to AI governance, while companies with lower technological maturity face the complexity of governance choices. IBM emphasizes that a flexible AI governance framework can help enterprises adapt to market changes, reduce risks, and promote greater adoption to realize the potential of AI.
