Project Introduction

As a Japanese student, I hope to have a font that completes simplified Chinese characters based on the priority of Japanese characters to meet the needs of learning a language such as a special Chinese-Japanese Chinese character mix.

After accidentally learning about the World of Warcraft font merging/completion tool, I merged the three fonts Ysabeau, Klee One, and Xiawu Wenkai, and got a good user experience. With the idea of sharing it to facilitate everyone, open source the project on GitHub.

To express my respect for the maker of Xiawu Wenkai, and to follow the naming style of the original project, I dared to use the second half of the sentence "落霞与孤鹜齐飞，秋水共长天一色" (English name Qiushui Shotai) to name this font "Qiushui Shutai" (English name Qiushui Shotai) - Qiushui means that the simplified Chinese characters of the font are from Xiawu Wenkai; Shotai deliberately uses Japanese Chinese characters and Roman sounds, indicating that this is a textbook with Japanese characters priority.

Similar to the original project, this project also has 2 branches:

• QiushuiShotai/Qiushui style:
  • Klee provides Japanese and English characters
  • LxgwWenKai provides Chinese simplified Chinese characters
• QiushuiShotai Bright/Qiushui Book Style Bright:
  • Ysabeau provides western characters
  • Klee provides Japanese kanji characters
  • LxgwWenKai provides Chinese simplified Chinese font shapes

In addition, students who like traditional Chinese characters can learn about Fusion Kai / Sewing Kai project by Xiawu Wenkai author:

The Japanese standard shape is preferred and is composed of "Klee One" and "Xiawu Wenkai TC" in sequence.

Production process

The font files used in this project are from the following open source projects:

Ysabeau: YsabeauOffice-Regular.ttf , provides Western text shapes

Klee: KleeOne-SemiBold.ttf , providing Japanese Chinese characters

LxgwWenKai: LXGWWenKai-Regular.ttf , providing Chinese simplified Chinese fonts

The font merging tool used is the World of Warcraft font merging/completion tool

• Hold down the Ctrl key to select Western and Japanese font files
• Hold down the Western font to drag the multi-selected files (i.e., Western font and Japanese font) to合并.bat , waiting for a file named out.ttf to be generated
• Hold down the Ctrl key to select out.ttf and Chinese fonts generated above.
• Hold down out.ttf to drag the multi-selected file (i.e., the generated Japanese and Chinese fonts) to合并.bat , waiting for a new out.ttf to be generated

It should be noted that the fonts merged in this method may encounter problems on some software. Please check the relevant instructions for the World of Warcraft Font Merge/Complement Tool.

• This font can be used freely for both individuals and enterprises, without paying, and without knowing or indicating the original author.
• This font can be freely disseminated, shared, or installing the font in a system, software or APP is also allowed, and can be bundled, redistributed and/or sold together with any software.
• This font can be freely modified and modified to produce derivative fonts. Modified or modified fonts must also be disclosed in SIL OFL.

limit

When making derivative fonts, the font name cannot be used with the "reserved name" of the original font. This font retains the name "Qiushui Book Style" and "QiushuiShotai". Based on the font secondary derived from this font, the words "Qiushui Book Style" or "Qiushui Shotai" cannot appear in the name; and without modifying the font source code, the recompiled fonts can continue to use the retained name "Qiushui Book Style" and "Qiushui Shotai" of this font.

• According to the provisions of SIL Open Font License 1.1, the sale of font files (OTF/TTF files) is prohibited.
• This font cannot be issued under license other than SIL Open Font License 1.1.
