During this time, I have been saying that design needs to have a sense of layering. This layering may have many types, such as the layering of colors or the layering of elements. When a design lacks a sense of hierarchy, the page will show only two possibilities, one is monotonous, and the other is fancy. In design, we often fall into the preference for a certain color or a certain effect, and this situation will make our design lack long-term vitality. And we ourselves will be limited to the persistence of this preference in aesthetics, which will affect our progress. And this kind of paranoia often leads to a lack of layering in our designs. So where does layering usually appear? In the first article of the "Color Answers" series I wrote before, I talked about the levels of color. In that article, I talked about using "black, white, and gray" to analyze the levels of colors. When we design, we may use one color to make the entire website, but we find that the effect of this single color makes our website very monotonous and rustic. Sometimes even if more colors are used, they still look rustic. The colors used on the website have no sense of hierarchy or contrast. They are all in a similar grayscale, so the website looks gray. Of course, we can also use high-contrast solid color blocks for design (many Korean websites use this method). This method is tricky because it is relatively simple, but it is also easier to be plagiarized. But this kind of design lacks vitality. As a trend, it is a bit like fast food. Anyone can copy it. No culture is required as a base. Of course, this does not mean that this method is really useless. It can only be used as a method and cannot be used as a universal panacea. We see that IBM’s design does not have many colors, but it does have a sense of hierarchy. There are black, light blue, and white here. The contrast between black and light blue is more eye-catching. And we found that black is pure black, while light blue is the highlight type. This strong contrast has a certain appeal to human vision. And there are three kinds of black, white and gray. In addition, the proportions between the three are not equal. When we design, we usually use colors with similar grayscales and put them together, and the saturation is not high, so the final work can only be gray. I won’t look for examples of websites like this, because no one will be happy if I look for them. Of course including myself. Haha, you can go look for it in my portfolio, there must be something like that. In addition, we can also see that IBM's new design is more three-dimensional than the original design. This is the element level I mentioned above. This sense of layering increases the viewer’s visual depth, making our web pages no longer flat. Although it is not a 3D effect, I believe that the 2D effect will definitely become a new trend in web design. Simulating a visual three-dimensional sense through 2D will make the web design more intense and the content richer. The brightly colored pictures are even more eye-catching in the layout of solid color blocks. This is another kind of visual hierarchy, which can also be said to be a contrast between complexity and simplicity! There are no fixed rules for design, and there are many factors involved. Whether the design is good or not, what matters is how broad the designer’s understanding of the world is. Therefore, designers cannot just focus on strengthening their production skills, but also constantly accumulate their own cultural knowledge. Keep increasing your thickness so that you can design more wonderful works. I am willing to work hard with everyone!
