Cybersecurity expert Mikko Hyppönen predicted the cybersecurity threats brought by artificial intelligence in 2024 and pointed out that five major risks deserve great attention. His warning sounded the alarm for the coming AI era, reminding us that we must prepare in advance to deal with potential challenges. These risks pose serious threats not only to individual users, but also to corporate and national security.
Cybersecurity expert Mikko Hyppönen has warned of the top five artificial intelligence (AI) cyber threats of most concern in 2024. They include a 3000% increase in deepfake fraud, deepfakes committing large-scale fraud, AI starting to write malware, concerns about the discovery of zero-day vulnerabilities, and fully automated malware being the number one security threat in 2024. Furthermore, Hyppönen said that in order to maintain control of artificial general intelligence (AGI), we need to be consistent with its goals and needs.
Hyppönen’s warning highlights the double-edged sword effect brought about by the development of AI technology, which brings both huge opportunities and huge risks. In the future, we need to strengthen AI security research and develop more effective defense mechanisms to better cope with these challenges and ensure that AI technology can serve humanity safely and reliably.
