xAI, the artificial intelligence company founded by Elon Musk, is spending heavily to build a powerful supercomputer to further the development of its artificial intelligence chatbot Grok. To accomplish this ambitious goal, xAI has teamed up with Dell Technologies and Super Micro, two server giants that will each provide half of the supercomputer's server racks. Dell will also work with Nvidia to build an "artificial intelligence factory" to power future versions of Grok. The partnership highlights xAI’s ambitious expansion into artificial intelligence and its huge demand for advanced computing power.
Elon Musk's artificial intelligence startup xAI is building a supercomputer for which Dell Technologies and Super Micro will provide server racks. Musk said on social media platform X that Dell will assemble half of the racks of the xAI supercomputer. For the other half of his partners, the billionaire replied to another post by mentioning "SMC," referring to server maker Super Micro. San Francisco-based AMD, known for its close ties with chip companies such as Nvidia and its liquid-cooling technology, confirmed the xAI partnership to Reuters.

On the other hand, Dell CEO Michael Dell said in another post on Powered by a version. Musk reportedly told investors that xAI plans to build a supercomputer to drive the next version of its artificial intelligence chatbot Grok. Training AI models like xAI's Grok requires tens of thousands of power-hungry chips, which are in short supply.
Earlier this year, Musk said that training the Grok2 model would require about 20,000 Nvidia H100 graphics processing units (GPUs), adding that the Grok3 model and beyond would require 100,000 Nvidia H100 chips. According to The Information, Musk said he hopes to have the proposed supercomputer operational by the fall of 2025. Last year, Musk founded xAI, aiming to challenge Microsoft-backed OpenAI and Google's Alphabet. Musk is also the co-founder of OpenAI.
This news heralds xAI’s continued growth in artificial intelligence and demonstrates the important role of Dell Technologies and Super Micro in supporting xAI’s ambitions. At the same time, the cooperation with NVIDIA also provides xAI with strong technical support and is expected to promote its further breakthroughs and innovations in the field of artificial intelligence.
xAI’s cooperation with Dell, Super Micro and Nvidia marks a solid step in its competition in the field of artificial intelligence, and also heralds the rapid development and widespread application of artificial intelligence technology in the future. Future versions of Grok are expected to bring more powerful performance and richer functions, which is worth looking forward to.
