This tutorial will explain how to use Photoshop to add a beautiful transparent checkerboard effect to a picture.

First we make a grid pattern, start Photoshop, and create a 50*50px file with a transparent background:

Then use the line tool and set it up as follows:

Then draw a white line along the left and above:

Then select the edit menu, select custom pattern, and enter a name:

Then open our original image, create a layer, and rename it grid:

Then set the paint bucket tool and fill it with the pattern:

The effect is as follows:

Then use the arrows to move right:

Add a mask effect:

Switch to the Channels panel: .

After display:

Add a transparent gradient effect and set the brush tool as follows:

Draw the following pattern:

The channel panel is as follows:

Duplicate layer:

Then delete the mask and press Ctrl+I to invert it, and you will get the effect of a black border:

The paint bucket tool settings are as follows:

The filling part is yellowish white:

Finally, use the magic wand tool to select the black line and press Del to delete it. The final effect is as follows:
