The xAI company owned by Elon Musk recently released its latest artificial intelligence model Grok3, which is seen as a strong response to competitors such as OpenAI's GPT-4o and Google's Gemini. Grok3 not only has powerful image analysis and question-answering capabilities, but also provides a number of innovative features on Musk's social platform X. This release marks a further breakthrough in xAI in the field of artificial intelligence.
Grok3's development took several months and, although initially planned to be released in 2024, was finally officially unveiled until Monday. To train this model, xAI used about 200,000 GPUs in a large data center in Memphis. Musk revealed in a live demonstration that Grok3's computing power is 10 times higher than its predecessor Grok2, and its training dataset has also been significantly expanded, even including complex documents such as court cases.
Grok3 is not a single model, but a family of models, including Grok3mini. Although the Grok3mini answers faster, it has a slight compromise on accuracy. xAI claims that Grok3 surpasses GPT-4o in multiple benchmarks, especially in areas such as mathematics and physics. In addition, Grok3Reasoning and Grok3mini Reasoning can "think" more deeply and help users avoid common logical traps.
In the Grok application, users can make deeper reasoning by requesting Grok3 to "think" or using the "Big Brain" mode in complex problems. xAI also launched a new feature called DeepSearch, which can analyze information on the Internet and X platforms and provide a concise summary when users ask questions, greatly improving the efficiency of information acquisition.
Premium subscribers of xAI will be the first to experience the power of Grok3, while other features need to be unlocked with a new plan called SuperGrok. Pricing at $30 per month or $300 per year, SuperGrok offers additional inference and DeepSearch query capabilities to meet the needs of high-end users.
Looking ahead, Grok applications will also launch "voice mode" to enable Grok models to perform voice synthesis and further enhance user experience. Musk said Grok2 will open source after Grok3 matures and stabilizes, and this goal is expected to be achieved within a few months.
Since its first announcement two years ago, Grok has always shown himself as a bold and eclectic figure. Although the early Grok model had some scruples on certain political topics, Musk promised to make Grok more neutral. However, it is not clear whether this goal has been fully achieved. In any case, the release of Grok3 has undoubtedly injected new vitality into the field of artificial intelligence and has also brought more possibilities to users.
