Web Services are related to application-to-application communication. WSDL is an XML-based Web Services description language.

WSDL (Web Services Description Language) is an XML format used to describe Web Services. .

As an XML format that describes Web Services, WSDL 1.1 was recommended to W3C in March 2001 (by Ariba, IBM, and Microsoft).

This record also describes how to use WSDL in conjunction with SOAP 1.1, HTTP GET/POST, and MIME.

W3C WSDL 1.1 is only a record of discussion (Note). The release of this record does not represent any degree of recognition by W3C. WSDL 1.2

The first working draft was published on 17 December 2001.

The latest draft of work was published on 11 June 2003. WSDL 2.0

The XML Protocol working group for W3C is currently working on WSDL 2.0.
