The META tag is an auxiliary tag in the head area of the HTML language. It is used to describe the properties of an HTML web document, such as the author, date and time, web page description, keywords, page refresh, etc. It has two attributes, namely HTTP header information (HTTP-EQUIV) and page description information (NAME). Different attributes have different parameter values, and these different parameter values realize different web page functions.
When we perform search engine optimization (SEO) on our website, we usually use the two parameters Keywords and description in the name attribute. The two mainstream search engines, Baidu and GOOGLE, were tested for a long time. It was found that the ranking of Baidu's search results has a lot to do with the content in the META tag, and it also has a certain decisive role in GOOGLE. The role of META tag in a page is second only to title. Therefore, the content design of META tags is still very important.
Let’s discuss with you the basic writing of keywords and description in META tags and things that should be paid attention to:
1. Keywords (keywords)
Description: List of key words provided for search engines
Usage: <Meta name=Keywords Content=QQ network name, QQ signature, QQ personalized signature, the coolest QQ name, non-mainstream QQ signature, traditional QQ signature>
Skills: 1. Select the appropriate keywords (use tools such as Baidu index to select keywords with relatively high search volume, and if necessary, you can choose compound keywords)
2. Use half-width commas to separate the keywords (the keywords should be separated by half-width commas (that is, commas in English). If Chinese is used as punctuation, the search engine will mistakenly consider it as text)
3. Don’t write too many keywords too long (it is recommended to control them within six words, just be short and clear, don’t repeat them too much or deliberately)
4. Try not to use the same Keywords for each page on a large website.
2. Description (web page description)
Description: Description is used to tell search engines the main content of your website. Usage: <Meta name=Description Content=QQ network name, choose the coolest QQ network name and the coolest QQ signature for your QQ>
Skill: 1. It should be natural language, not listing keywords (that is, a few more concise sentences to describe the title and content of the web page, not listing keywords like Keywords.)
2. The description content should be highly correlated with the web title and Keywords keyword content (keywords supplementary explanations that cannot be fully expressed in titles and keywords)
3. The description content should be highly correlated with the content of the web page itself.
4. There are not too many words to describe (it is recommended to control them within 200 characters, and the key words appear three or four times, so don’t accumulate too much)
5. Don’t use the same description for every page.
The above writing method is just a general rule. In actual use, it should be adjusted appropriately with the changes in search engine search rules and the website itself.
