According to the latest UN data released, China's patent applications in the field of generative artificial intelligence technology have jumped to the top in the world, far exceeding other countries. Specific data show that China's number of patent applications is six times that of the United States, showing China's strong development momentum in this field.
Generative artificial intelligence technologies, including chatbots such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Baidu's "Wenxin Yiyan", have been widely used in the creation of text, images, music and computer code. The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) report states that over the past decade, there have been more than 50,000 patent applications for generative artificial intelligence worldwide, with images and video-related technologies dominating, followed by text and voice/music technologies. , and patent applications based on molecular, gene and protein data are also increasing rapidly.

Christopher Harrison, patent analysis manager at WIPO, stressed that the field of generative artificial intelligence is developing at an astonishing pace and is expected to maintain or even accelerate this growth trend in the next few years. From 2014 to 2023, China filed more than 38,000 patent applications in this field, compared with 6,276 in the United States. Among the top five patent application institutions in the world, four are from China, including Tencent, Ping An of China, Baidu and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Harrison further pointed out that China's patent applications cover multiple fields from publishing, document management to autonomous driving. In addition, the WIPO report also specifically mentioned the important role of Chinese universities in artificial intelligence research, and China has also made remarkable achievements in artificial intelligence talent training and infrastructure construction. Together, these factors have promoted China's global leadership in the field of generative artificial intelligence technology.
