Yesterday was my first time using Google+1, and I spent almost three hours trying out all its features. Friends who have already experienced Google+1 can write your thoughts in the comments of the article to tell those who have not tried it yet, share your experience and thoughts, and what this new social network means for SEO.
First acquaintance +1
Below is "Home," which seems a lot like other social networks I've used, but seems a little more streamlined. You can simply sort your friend groups, so-called groups, by clicking "Streams" on the left sidebar. Only see stuff shared from your family or other circles, for example I could select "Family" and only see their content. It looks like it would be really easy to combine all your work and personal contacts into one network.
Circles
First you have to create a Circles, which looks like a Facebook image, and you can use it to classify people. This is very helpful for people like me who don’t like to share. I can share my thoughts and research stories about SEO with my friends. It is also very easy to add contacts to Circles. Although I only have 8 people on my list, I think the entire adding process is very smooth.
Hangouts
Yesterday, a few friends and I tried an interesting feature in Google+1 - Hangouts. It allows you to video chat with up to ten friends at the same time. The coolest part about it is when you start a Hangout. It tells your friends that you're on a Hangout and you can ask them to join in. Of course, you can also organize others to join your Hangouts.
Sparks
Next we’re going to talk about something Google calls Sparks, which is described as an “online sharing engine.” To me, Sparks is a way to add a constantly changing and updated search engine results page to your in social networks. I added SEO and Cycling as my first two Sparks to see what would happen. Basically, I get a list of web pages, press releases, and videos about my search criteria, and they seem to be updated every few hours I follow them. Every piece of content added to Spark will have a Spark link so you can easily share it within your Circles.
Photos
As with any social network, being able to share photos with your friends is key! Google+1 has many different ways for you to display and share these photos with your friends. Here's the first way to see photos shared by your friends. This is a friendly way to see what photos are in your friends' albums.
If you click on one of the options, it will open a slideshow of all the loaded images inside your Circles. It allows you to quickly browse your friends' photo albums and quickly add comments while seeing others' comments. You can also tag photos downloaded from friends just like you can on other social networks.
You can also create an album collection from the pictures you share. It will shrink when you drag to browse but you can still see the original image when browsing. I found uploading and downloading photos to be very convenient.
Overall, I found that the whole process of sharing photos was not as smooth as I imagined, but for now this is just my reserved idea, and I need to share it with some friends before I can get the final answer.
Security
Here are some security options you can set when sharing content within your Circles. You can disable comments on things you share, and you can disable sharing with your friends. Of course you can also choose the Circles you want to see. If you don’t want certain people to see certain photos, you can share them only with your SEO friends.
How do you think Google +1 will affect your search results?
We did a little test last night to see how sharing something on Google +1 affects search results for your social circles. So far, we can't see any significant differences. This is also normal. After all, this is a new product launched by Google, but it will definitely have an impact on search results in the future.
