Note

This font was once suspended from being updated in June 2022 [Details (Kuan)]. Later, I thought that there were still many users who liked this font and said it was even more regretful for the suspension of this font. After repeated consideration, I decided to resume the update and maintenance of this font. However, the subsequent version of the Chinese character font shapes are generated by AI (so the quality of the curve of the Chinese character font outline will decrease).
It should be noted that although this font is derived from "Xiawu Wenkai", "Xiawu Zhenkai" is an independent font and is not affiliated with the "Xiawu Wenkai" series. Although users can temporarily use this font as a bold version of "Xiawu Wenkai" and use it with Wenkai, the update and maintenance of this font is not carried out simultaneously with Wenkai, and there is no plan to align the character set with Wenkai.

LXGW ZhenKai / Xiawu Zhenkai

Xiawu Zhenkai: Derived from "Xiawu Wenkai", the characters are manually bolded and adjusted in the early stage, and later the characters are generated by AI to assist in the complementary characters.

Font introduction

This font is a derivative font of Xiawu Wenkai/LXGW WenKai. At first it was an attempt to make the rough and heavy characters of "Xiawu Wenkai". Since the current character weight of Xiawu Wenkai Medium (formerly Bold, it is also the regular character weight of "Xiawu Wenkai Screen Reading Version") is still relatively detailed for some users, and if the transformation function of the font editing software is directly bolded, some characters will be blurred into pieces. Therefore, the project "Xiawu Zhenkai" was started. Based on the bolding function of the font editing software, most of the font shapes were manually adjusted (including shortening strokes, reducing thin strokes, reducing boldness, etc.) so that the fonts were kept clear while being thickened, reducing the stickiness, blur, and burrs of strokes. However, this font is still too conservative in choosing the thickness, so some users later thought that this font was "still very fine" (#4). Some mobile phone font enthusiasts even made a thicker version. Therefore, I think that this project "has not achieved the expected effect" and "violated the original intention", so I stopped maintaining this project. Later I thought that there were many users who liked this font and expressed even more regrets about the suspension of this font. After repeated consideration, I decided to resume the update and maintenance of this font. However, the subsequent supplementary characters were assisted by zi2zi. The manually adjusted font shape in the early stage was used as the training source for the later zi2zi target font shape. After a certain period of training, the character "Xiawu Wenkai" moved closer to the previous "Xiawu Zhenkai", which facilitated subsequent supplementary characters. In addition, the early artificial thickening and thinning are subjective factors, and manually adjusted font shapes are inevitably problematic of uneven grayscale; in contrast, the font shapes generated by AI are more balanced, and theoretically the grayscale and thickness are more unified. Therefore, since v0.700, all Chinese characters have been generated by AI, but the curve quality of the font outline will decrease.

Compared with any word weight of "Xiawu Wenkai", although "Xiawu Zhenkai" is bold, it is not blurred. Although the choice of word weight is contrary to the "original intention" of heavy characters, this font is still more comfortable to read on the screen. It can be used as a screen reading font or temporarily as a bold type of "Xiawu Wenkai" and is used with "Xiawu Wenkai".

Since zi2zi generates bitmaps rather than vectors, the quality of the contour curve will decrease after being directly imported into the font file (such as jagged teeth, potholes, etc.), so the glyph bitmaps are converted into SVG vectors, and the Chinese fonts are built using SVG2FontBuilder, and the generated font curve outline will be improved. However, after converting to vector images, the number of anchor points increases, and the size of the font file will increase.
