LXGW Marker Gothic / Xiawu Manhei

An open-source Chinese font derived from Tanugo. An open-source Chinese font derived from Tanugo.

Introduction

This font is a Chinese font with a marker writing style based on the corner modification, and can be used for comics, advertising and other purposes.

Font vocabulary

Simplified Chinese

Complete the simplified characters corresponding to traditional Chinese characters contained in the original font library (JIS X 0212 First and Second Level Chinese Characters);
Complete 3500 commonly used Chinese ^{characters①} ;
Modify the G shape within the target vocabulary range;
Complete the second-level characters of GB/T 2312-1980 (original text) and "General Standard Chinese Character Table" (original text).
Completed the general standard Chinese character table three-level characters and the modern Chinese general character table 7000 characters.

^①Including "the list of commonly used characters in modern Chinese" (old 3500 characters) and "the list of commonly used characters in compulsory education Chinese courses" (new 3500 characters, equivalent to the first-level character table of "General Standard Chinese Character Table"), a total of 3603 characters.

Traditional Chinese and other parts

GB/T 12345-1990 (original text) 6866 Chinese characters;
Taiwan’s “Commonly Used National Character Standard Font Table” has 4808 commonly used Chinese characters;
"Commonly used characters" in Hong Kong, commonly used Chinese characters and some different characters;
BIG5 first-level (commonly used) Chinese characters 5401;
Appendix 1 of the "General Standard Chinese Character Table": Traditional Chinese Characters Column (level one, two, and three) in the "Comparison Table of Standardized Characters and Traditional Chinese Characters and Different Characters".

Currently, this font contains more than 13,000 characters, which can basically meet the needs of displaying characters for simple and traditional Chinese characters.

ⅰ. Download directly

Download the ttf format font file in the Releases interface.
Enter Maobin.com and download it. After the GitHub project is updated, the relevant person in charge will be contacted to update, and the update will be a little later. Note: Other websites that include free commercial fonts may also include this font, but it may not be the latest version.

ⅱ. Generate from source code

Please run ./sources/build.bat or ./sources/build.sh . fontmake needs to be installed: pip3 install fontmake and fontTools : pip3 install fonttools .

Things to note

I am not a professional designer and have not considered the aesthetics of the design, so the structure may look a little ugly, and the characters added may feel a little inconsistent with the original version. In addition, due to the hasty time and not enough time to carefully revise, the splicing of some characters will be very stiff, but better than nothing. If there are any suggestions for font optimization or adjustment, please give feedback in Issue #4. If there are any urgent requests for adding characters, please give feedback in Issue #5. Do not open a separate topic for easy organization.
Some strokes and parts of this font retain the shape processing method of the original Japanese font and do not strictly follow the standard Chinese characters written in mainland China. Please pay attention.
Use scenarios (for suggestions only):
- Recommended: graphic posters, e-commerce copywriting, video titles and subtitles, book and newspaper titles, game embedding, etc.;
- Not recommended: text layout, programming code, mobile phone system interface font, etc.

Assist in perfection

limit

When making derivative fonts, the font name cannot be used with the "reserved name" of the original font. This font retains the name "Xiawu" and "LXGW". Based on the font secondary derived from this font, the words "Xiawu" or "LXGW" cannot appear in the name; and without modifying the font source code, the recompiled fonts can continue to use the retained name "Xiawu" and "LXGW" of this font.
According to Article 1 of the "Limitations and Conditions" of SIL Open Font License 1.1, the separate sale of font files (OTF/TTF files) is prohibited.
This font cannot be issued under license other than SIL Open Font License 1.1.
