Future Black is an open source font project based on Siyuan bold, Fira Sans and Raleway, supporting simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese and Japanese; Siyuan bold 7-word weight is expanded to 9-word weight, and a width series is provided, with a total of 44 fonts in the family.

Compared with Siyuan bold, the future fluorescent black shape is simpler and more modern, and the layout effect is fresh and light. In the future, the central palace and literals of the black color will be more convergent, and the center of gravity will be reconfigured between the weights of the characters; the details of the strokes will be cleaner, simpler and straighter. You can download samples to preview future black designs.

The implementation of future fluorescent black is between parameterization and contour filters, and an image processing algorithm is used to model the glyph. The font production does not use font design software, but uses a web-implemented visual parameter adjustment tool to determine font parameters.

Version updates and download links will be updated on the Release release page. If you use macOS operating system, you can use the Homebrew package manager to install future fluorescent black, such as simplified Chinese version of fonts:

Online Demo

We have developed an online demonstration for future fluorescent black, which is also a visual interactive environment for future fluorescent black to modify font parameters. You can modify the text appearance by changing various parameters here, and the exported parameters can be used for font construction.

How is it different from Siyuan bold?

FAQ

• Q: Can it be used commercially for free?
• A: Yes.
• Q: Is this a variable font?
• A: No. In the future, the black color will change the shape of the characters and expand the family by deforming on Siyuan bold. You can play our demo to see more intuitively how deformation is achieved.
• Q: Do you support Korean?
• A: Not supported. Later versions may provide Korean support.
• Q: The quality of the curve does not seem to be high?
• A: Because the deformation algorithm is not perfect. The goal of future fluorescent black is simply to provide an open source alternative to make up for a gap in free commercial Chinese fonts and provide usability convenience. Of course, improving the quality of the output curve is still a technical indicator of this project.
• Q: The problem with a certain word is very serious. Can it be repaired manually?
• A: There is no such plan, but if the phenomenon is common, the algorithm will be modified. Pull requests are welcomed.
• Q: Is there a TTF version?
• A: No, there may be another version.
• Q: Why do some characters supported by Siyuan bold are not supported in the future?
• A: These characters are very difficult to process width series, so they have been temporarily eliminated, such as "Enclosed CJK Letters And Months". In addition, ccmp is not supported for the time being, and it is not planned to support locl characteristics of Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages.
